Thousands of Almaguin residents should soon have a primary care provider.

The Province of Ontario announced an annual investment of $3.8 million to connect residents with primary care teams on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

This is part of Ontario’s $110-million investment to connect 328,000 more people to primary care teams.

THUNDER BAY -- A few clinics in the Thunder Bay area are now benefiting from a new investment by the Ontario government.

Family health units in the north are getting a funding boost.

The province has announced $5.9 million for primary care teams. That includes $1.3 million for Timmins clinics at the East End Family Health Team and the Timmins Academic Family Health Team. That funding is expected to open up primary care access to 10,000 people.

The Ontario government is promising around $6 million to expand family health teams and create new ones in northeastern Ontario.

“They’ll get full notice of the details next week but we wanted to get the announcement out," said Timmins MPP George Pirie.

Listowel-Wingham Family Health Team is getting $822,604 in provincial funding to expand primary care.

The funds, announced on Friday morning in Listowel, will help the team serve an additional 2,000 residents in Huron and Perth counties.
