John Bkila, Burlington Post More health-care professionals are headed to Burlington, thanks to $1.2 million in provincial funding. Burlington MPP Eleanor McMahon made the announcement Wednesday, May 2 with the Burlington Family Health Team at the Halton McMaster Family Health Centre, located to the west of Joseph Brant Hospital. The funding will be used to expand the health team and its operations, which connect people in the community with a range of health-care professionals to address various health-care needs, such as mental health and musculoskeletal pain management. “I am proud that our government is supporting the expansion of Burlington Family Health Team’s inter-professional care team, providing support to patients of primary care physicians in Burlington. This $1.2 million investment will ensure that the people we all rely on for care have the resources we need to deliver it,” said McMahon. “Ontario’s commitment to better care is reflected in its support for Burlington Family Health Team, its health-care professionals, its patients and their families and in enhancing their ability to get the care they need, when and where they need it.” According to a media release, there are currently 294 inter-professional care teams across Ontario delivering care to more than four million people. Gary Crowell, incoming chair of the Burlington Family Health Team board of directors said the funding from the province supports the team’s vision of “putting people first.” “We are looking forward to the expansion of our team to support our communities primary care physicians and their patients with access to an interprofessional care team,” he said.
