Summary/Abstract

Given the rapid transition to virtual care, it has been challenging to adopt both a new method of providing care, and a new way to teach, simultaneously. Given that virtual care is not imminently disappearing, a robust way to make this virtual environment work is required in order to provide learners with successful  teaching opportunities; faculty with the ability to observe and evaluate encounters; and patients with a safe and effective platform in which to receive care in the teaching setting. We have developed a methodology, using Zoom™ Healthcare or Education, that enables all of these goals to be met for supervision of only one learner, or in a setting with multiple learners simultaneously. This model can easily be adapted for interprofessional care.

In this session we will review some of the challenges of working and teaching in the virtual environment as well as providing interprofessional care. The innovative model will be demonstrated, including appropriate settings for minimizing risk, tips and tricks to ensure movement of patients and care providers through the various rooms being used, and cheat sheets for quick access to important information. Privacy issues will be addressed, and ways to adapt the model for interprofessional clinics will be discussed.
