Objectives

Managing patients after bariatric surgery can be complex. Project ECHO Ontario Bariatric Network (OBN) is a virtual training and capacity building medical education program that supports community based primary care providers and allied health professionals across Ontario in delivering high quality, evidence-based obesity management care in their local communities.

Each virtual educational session connects program participants with a multi-disciplinary team of specialists from one of Ontario’s Bariatric Centres of Excellence (BCoE). Through didactic presentations and case-based discussion, participants have the opportunity to advance learning in obesity management and enhance clinical skills.

ECHO OBN is fully funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and is offered at no cost to participants.

Project ECHO OBN is an innovative technology enabled collaborative learning program where primary care providers and an interdisciplinary team of clinicians from one of Ontario’s Bariatric Centres of Excellence work together to discover new ways to provide care more effectively to patients living with obesity.

Learn how to work with your patients who have received specialty care from a Bariatric Centre of Excellence (BCoE).  Join either our 12-week Foundations program or our 6-week Advanced series and build clinical expertise through evidence-based presentations and case discussion.

Learn about:

  • Leading surgical, medical, and psychosocial treatment options for patients with obesity
  • Strategies to identify and prevent potential post-operative complications after bariatric surgery
  • Tools and resources to assist you to manage your patient

There is no cost to join. While we encourage providers to attend as many sessions as they can, you are not required to attend every session. The sessions are recorded for participants who are not available to join the virtual sessions. Recorded sessions and session materials (PowerPoint slides, case summary, etc.) are uploaded onto the ECHO website, on which participants can access and download materials.

CME credits are granted based on attendance, and it is up to the participant to claim the credits with your own regulating body.  Certificates are issued for each session by McMaster University at the conclusion of the series and all participants, regardless of discipline, receive a certificate for each session they attend.
