The 2nd Annual AFHTO Bright Lights Awards celebrate the leadership and significant progress being made to improve the value delivered by AFHTO members to 3 million patients across Ontario. Winners were announced at the October 22 Awards Dinner at the AFHTO 2013 Conference, attended by over 250 people AFHTO members, senior representatives from government, Health Quality Ontario, and some of the associations who, along with AFHTO, work together as the Ontario Primary Care Council. The Honourable Minister Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-TermCare and Deputy Premier of Ontario, joined in celebrating the successes of the award nominees and winners. Reflecting on the progress of family health teams in the 10 years since government first began to develop the concept, she said, “The work you are doing is nothing short of remarkable.” The Bright Lights Award recipients are listed below. Board Special Award Recipients: Durhane Wong-Rieger, Paula Brauer, Tom Smiley AFHTO members were invited to submit nominations for Bright Light recognition over the course of June and July. Submissions were made in eight theme categories, mirroring the focus of the AFHTO 2013 Conference – Leadership in Healthcare for Ontarians. These submissions included descriptions and objective evidence of the scope and impact of the achievement, and action taken by the nominee to spread the achievement more broadly. An Awards Committee reviewed and rated all submissions to determine the recipients. The call for nominations for the 2014 Bright Light Awards will go out in June.
