Are you a dedicated, innovative Nurse Practitioner with an unbridled passion for patient care? The Belleville Nurse-Practitioner-Led Clinic (BNPLC) is looking for someone like you to be its newest Nurse Practitioner.
Since 2010, the BNPLC has been a trusted leader in providing accessible, individualized, fully responsive primary health care in the Quinte Region. With more than 3200 registered patients with a diverse range of needs, we make a difference every day.
Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP), in the Newborn Program will provide direct care for new born babies and their families within the full scope of practice for an NP. Care will be provided on site at the Belleville Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic (BNPLC). The NP will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive well child care, immunization and lactation support for the newborn babies, infants and families. This position will collaborate and consult with pediatricians and other childcare experts, as required, for the provision of evidence-based childcare. The NP will establish a network with community agencies for referral and supportive care.
The NP will be instrumental in developing, administering, managing and evaluating the program and ensure that the goals and outcome indicators are in alignment with the purpose of the service.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care for new born babies and families
- Conducts comprehensive perinatal and developmental history and new born assessments utilizing the established assessment forms
- Identifies childcare needs, both health and social and formulate an evidence-informed plan of care
- Administers vaccinations according to the Ontario immunization guidelines
- Assess mother for perinatal challenges, including mental health disorders and lactation challenges, and intervene appropriately
- Collaborate and/or consult as appropriate, with members of an interdisciplinary team within the clinic and externally with the community of care (e.g., health unit, children’s treatment center)
- Refer appropriately when growth and development parameters are abnormal
- Participate in committees or community groups where an identified need for advocacy or representation is required
- Implements clinical leadership skills to organize and coordinate the care of clients to ensure safe and effective practice and continuity of care with collaborating partners.
- Utilize medical directives where care falls outside the NPs scope of practice
- Provide culturally sensitive care
- Record nursing and medical interventions according to CNO standards of documentation
- Submit statistics as required by Ontario Health to the BNPLC Admin Lead
- Participate in training sessions as required by the BNPLC
- Participate in regular team meetings, and other meetings as requested
- Participates in the development, planning and evaluation of the newborn service
- Provide telephone advice and document all advice and care (per CNO standards of practice) in the EMR
Skills/Knowledge Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as a member of an Interprofessional team, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Exceptional documentation skills and attention to detail
- A positive and professional attitude
- Excellent time management skills with an ability to multi-task and effectively set priorities
- Knowledge in current, evidence-based methods and practice of primary care delivery
- Excellent oral/written/interpersonal skills
- Proficient in use of internet, Microsoft software, drug database programs
- Experience with an Electronic Medical Record, e.g., Telus EMR
- Experience in program design, delivery and evaluation an asset
- Education/Experience Requirements:
- Degree in Nursing from an accredited university
- Master’s Prepared education as a Primary Health Care NP
- Registration as an RN (EC) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Membership with RNAO or NPAO
- 3-5 years related or applicable experience in a community or primary health care setting
- Exceptional understanding of current, evidence based and best practice guidelines
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Proficient in use of internet, Microsoft software, drug database programs
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Experience in program design, delivery and evaluation an asset
- Professional liability insurance
- Current Ontario Driver’s License
- Certification in CPR
Job Requirements:
- Ability to travel within the community to provide required care.
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures as per applicable legislation
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Belleville NPLC
- Ability to work flexible work hours, including weekends and evenings.
- Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (less than 6 months old)
Physical Demands:
- The position requires minimal physical effort and the workday comprises roughly equal amounts of standing and sitting with frequent position changes.
